PSP Tutorial - Christmas Scene

This tutorial has been reproduced by very kind permission from its author, Jacs. Her beautiful web site can be seen at www.JacsGraphics.com

The skill level required is : BEGINNER

This tutorial assumes you have a basic knowledge of Paint Shop Pro. If you need more help just email me

Tools Used:
Paint Shop Pro 7: Get it Here
Tubes from Here - or whatever tubes you like.
The
Bay Window tube : Download it here.
The
Clouds Tube: Download it here.
( Or download both tubes in a ZIP file from here.)
And Most Importantly: Your Imagination =0)

Ready to get started?? Great, lets go!

Open the bay window tube.

I open up my tubes in PSP instead of using the picture tube tool. It just works easier for me, but however you want to do it is fine.
Choose the tubes you want to use.

I am going to decorate the inside of the window first. It is easier to do it this way because then you can see how much room you have outside when you place your tubes.
I am using 3 tubes for the inside. Use as many as you like but keep in mind that the more you decorate inside, the less room you will have outside =0)

I need to resize my tubes as some are to big and some to small. I copy the tube I want to use then paste as a new layer onto my window. Then I resize by hitting SHIFT+S and using these settings:

Notice I am using percentage of original, I find this much easier. Keep in mind the amount will change per tube. Also notice resize all layers is UNchecked. You only want to resize the layer you are working with not the whole image.

Nnow decorate the inside of your window resizing as you need to. This is what I've come up with.

SAVE YOUR WORK !!

When you are happy with the results go to your layer pallet and turn off the window layer by clicking the little glasses. Highlight one of the other layers and go to Layers: Merge Visible.

Now lets work on the outside of our window =0)

Add a new layer and move it under your window layer (this gives the look of it being outside the window)

Now copy and paste as new layer any tubes you may want to use making sure they are underneath the window layer,

I am using several tubes, resizing and placing where I like them.

I am just going to add a few images as I go. Remember - use your imagination, you never know what you will come up with =0)

When you are happy with your results you will want to turn off your window and inside the window layers. Make sure one of the tube layers is highlighted and go to layers, merge visible.

SAVE YOUR WORK !!

Great! We're almost done.

You now want to add a new raster layer underneath all of your layers. This will be your sky layer. Choose a color that reminds you of a night sky ( I am using #483A3A ) and flood fill your sky.

Now go to your layer pallet and highlight your window layer. Use your magic wand to select the outside of the window, like this

Now highlight your sky layer and hit delete. That will get rid of the excess.

Ok now lets add the "snow" on the ground. We will be using our cloud tubes.Add a new layer above the sky layer, (for this I use the picture tube tool) I set it to 50%. Just add some "snow" until you get it the way you like it. Dont worry if it goes past the window, we will cover that up in a minute =0)

SAVE YOUR WORK !!

Great job! Lets add a bit of snow in front of our outside scene. Add a new raster layer above the outside scene one and do the same as before with the cloud tubes until you get a look you like. Then go to your layer pallet and adjust the transparecy down to about 50%. Here is mine

Great job!!!

Now for the finishing touches. Highlight your window layer and using your magic wand tool select the outside of the window. Add a new layer and flood fill with your choice of backgrounds. I used the "Old Paper" pattern. Deselect.

Add a new raster layer and add a few clouds to the sky =0)

Now for the snow. Add a new layer above the sky and outside scene. Use your airbrush tool size 10 hardness 0 opacity 24 step 24 density 100. Keep in mind that the longer you hold the button the darker the "snow" will be. Now just randomly place "falling snow" on your image.

Great job! Merge visible layers and you have made a christmas scene!

SAVE YOUR WORK !!

I do hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and found it easy =0)
