Hi Friends and Tubers

A very warm welcome to all you new readers and members that have joined with us in the last couple of months, and especially in the last 2 weeks since the publishing of the latest Graphics Chronicle from PSP User Group. I hope you all enjoy your stay with us here in our small community.

I have been looking forward to producing this newsletter for the longest time now, because it means that our recent troubles are behind us and that we are back to "full speed ahead" with the site :-)

For the benefit of the almost 1000 new readers whom have joined since December I will just briefly recap what has recently transpired. On 6th December our offices here in South Africa were gutted by a fire that completely destroyed everything, including all of our PC's and equipment. Since then we have rebuilt and renovated our offices, and replaced much of our PC equipment. At the end of February we started to upload new tubes to the site once again. So if you were wondering why there were no tubes being uploaded during December, January and February .. thats the reason.

A BIG thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding during this time.

To everyone that sent us personal messages after the fire, we really appreciate you taking the time to do that. It was my intention to answer everyone individually but within a day I had more than 300 messages :-)))

Tube News

There are 2 new themes that have been uploaded to the site recently ... Moon and Stars and for all our Irish friends we have St. Patricks Day.

New tubes have also been added to some of the other exisiting themes.

Barry and Caroline are both now working at full speed to get tubes completed and uploaded as quickly as possible.

Remember, new tubes are uploaded most Fridays ... and, as always, the newest tubes can be quickly and easily grabbed from the "Members Newest Tubes" page in the members area.

General Site News

Affiliate Program

Our affiliate program is still progressing from strength-to-strength and we now have 63 affiliate members.

Looking at the commission reports for recent months I can tell you that some of our affiliates will be earning more than US$1000 this year in commissions .. which is wonderful :-)

EVERYONE who has a website can join. If your site is PSP tube related and you have decent traffic then thats even better ... you can expect to do well on the program.

All the info is at http://www.psp-tubes.com/affiliate-zone/ .

Its a UNIQUE opportunity for you to join a "tube related" affiliate program, that offers HIGH QUALITY content to your site visitors. After all .. thats why they come to your site in the first place :-)

Commissions are a generous 25%.

Poll Results

At the end of last year I asked everyone to vote on whether they wanted to see more tubes or more themes.

The result of the poll was almost a dead-heat. Some people want tubes so badly that they voted twice .. once for each option :-))))

We are going to continue as we have in the past ... that is to work on new themes as well as to add new tubes to the existing themes. Barry and Caroline will try to concentrate a bit more on the themes that don't have as many tubes in them.

Copyrighted Tubes and trademarks, etc

In the "voting" section of our site I see there were a number of requests for tubes that are copyrighted or trademarked. The ones in question are "precious moments" and "clifford the big red dog".

My own vote would go for Garfield ... I just love that guy :-)

However, the law says its not possible for us to carry these kinds of tubes, and I have now removed them from the voting database.

New PSP 8 (beta) available

I know this is already old news .. but I also know that many will not know that there is a new version of PSP available :-)

JASC have released the BETA version of PSP 8 .. and they have made it available for download on their web site at http://www.jasc.com

Caroline and Barry have been too busy lately making tubes to give it a full workout, but according to Barry it ".. looks interesting..". I will ask him to do a good evaluation of it and maybe I can persuade him to put his findings in the next newsletter :-)

Hard Drive Melt-Down (Again !!!)

I had yet another hard drive go bad on me a few weeks ago .. and I ended up losing a block of email. If you emailed me a while ago and still havent received a reply then its likely your mail was one of the casulties. Please can you email me again ? My apologies for the inconvenience :-(

Featured Site of the Week

Please send me sites that you think deserve to be featured here, and shared with our readers. It does not have to be your own web site.

Kat Korner

I know that many of us belong to groups on the various big network services .. Yahoo, MSN, etc etc. Here is one that I have come across recently and that I think deserves a mention :-)

http://groups.msn.com/katkorner

Groups like this come and go each day ... but Kat (aka. Wendy) and her team that assists her definitely seem to have found the right "recipe" for a successful group with this one.

There is PLENTY of activity .. the discussion forum is VERY active .. there are "challenges" (to hone your PSP skills) published almost daily .. there are regular competitions (we have sponsored some prizes for their most recent one) .. there are tubes ... there are tutorials ... and most importantly they are a VERY friendly bunch of guys/gals :-)

They are already more than 1000 members strong and growing all the time.

Scoot across and give them a peek .. join up if you like .. mention you came from PSP-TUBES dot COM :-)

Tip of the Week

We will feature here any tip or trick that will make our readers use of PSP a little easier/faster. Please send me your suggestions. If we publish it you will win 30 days access to our members area :-)

Todays tip is actually from a question that we received this morning from Steve ... and we thought more people may be able to make use of the solution :-)

Question

I have used PSP 7, but have never been able to figure out how to use the same tube over and over. I click on a tube that has trees, and each click after that pops up a different tree. How do I pick a particular tree and use it over and over, like if I was going to make a forest ?

Answer

The tree tube that is installed by default when you install PSP is actually made up of various tree images (9 in total). The result is that each time you click your mouse you get a different tree.

You can resolve this problem as follows.

Find the tree tube. If you have a default PSP7 installation you should find it at
C:\Program Files\Jasc Software Inc\Paint Shop Pro 7\Tubes

Use PSP's browse feature and browse to the tube folder using the path mentioned above and open the tree tube.

Using the selection tool (rectangle) draw a selection around the tree that you want, then hit CTRL C to copy and then CTRL V (or click EDIT COPY / EDIT PASTE AS NEW IMAGE).

Then export the tube into PSP. If you do not know how to export tubes into PSP then we have written a tutorial on how to do this which you can find at
http://www.psp-tubes.com/tutorials_exporting_tubes.asp

You can do each tree if you like. Then you will have 9 individual tree tubes.
