Hi Tubers It has been a while since my last newsletter. A very warm welcome to our new members, and to our many new readers, that have joined recently. I hope you have tons of fun with our tubes. As you have noticed, I have decided (at least for the time being anyway) to publish our newsletters on our web server instead of sending out the entire newsletter by email. The new HTML email format was giving me too many problems. Everytime I sent a newsletter something went wrong .. some mail clients couldn't read the email, multiple newsletters kept getting sent, etc etc. I am busy looking around for some software to automate as much of our email functions as possible, including the newsletter sending. Until I find something satisfactory I will just send out a VERY short text email notification to everyone when a new newsletter has been published on the server :-) |

Tube News Since my last newsletter there have been 68 new tubes uploaded. These new tubes are in Household, Birds, Pots and Vases, African, Bugs, Butterflies, Miscellaneous and Flowers themes. There is also a new theme - Halloween. All of these new tubes can be quickly downloaded from the "Members Newest Tubes Page" in the members area. I still have not got around to loading the sample tubes from the last couple of new themes into the free download area. My apologies for that. I will attempt to get the new pages completed and uploaded today and tomorrow. |

3 Significant Milestones Reached During the last month we reached 3 important milestones in the "evolution" of our web site. The first was exceeding 2500 tubes in our members area. The second was bypassing the 2000 readers mark for our newsletter. The third was exceeding 3 MILLION hits on the web site in a single month. Our sincere thank you to YOU .. our loyal readers, members and friends .. for helping our site continue to grow from strength to strength. We really appreciate your very kind support.

Featured Site of the Week Please send me sites that you think deserve to be featured here, and shared with our readers. It does not have to be your own web site.
LARGE Tube Database The site I would like to mention today is also one that I often use myself. This is definitely one of the largest databases/indexes of tubes that I have ever seen. If you are battling to find a specific theme of tubes then its highly likely that you will find reference to it here. And ... its maintained by hand :-) I don't think many of us can appreciate the amount of work that is involved in maintaining a site like this ... so kudos to Karen for providing us all with such a valuable resource. |

Tip of the Week We will feature here any tip or trick that will make our readers use of PSP a little easier/faster. Please send me your suggestions. If we publish it you will win 30 days access to our members area :-)
Fonts and PSP As you may know .. Windows lets you have only so many fonts "installed" on your PC at any given time. Also, the more fonts you have loaded the heavier Windows is on your system resources. It may happen that you wish to use a font in PSP that you do not currently have installed on your system. You also may not wish to install it as you don't use it often enough. The solution is simple. Open the font and leave it minimised on the task bar. As long as it is open on the task bar it will be available in the drop down font list when using the text tool of PSP. |

The Task Write a comprehensive PSP tutorial on adding perspective shadows to images. For example .. consider the image at the top of our tutorial about tube painting .. we are looking for a tutorial that would detail how to add shadows to the elephant and the tree. You dont have to use this same image .. you can use whatever image you wish for your tutorial. You may write the tutorial yourself .. in which case you will win the entire prize. or You may submit a tutorial that has been written by somebody else, and then share the prize with the author. In this case we will require confirmation from the actual author that permission has been given to submit the tutorial. IMPORTANT : By entering this competition you agree that although you will retain the copyright to your work (and be fully and completely credited with it) we are given the sole unconditional right to host the winning tutorial, in its entirety, on our own server ie. the winning tutorial may ONLY be hosted on our site .. and nowhere else. Who May Enter Anybody ... members and non-members. You may also submit as many entries as you wish and be eligible to win more than 1 prize. Judging We will approach an impartial person.. somebody well recognised and widely respected in PSP circles, and not associated with our web site at all .. to act as the judge for all entries. The judges name will be publicly announced before the closing date of the competition. The judges decision will be final. The Closing Date All entries are to be zipped together into a single winzip file .. and to be emailed to webmaster@psp-tubes.com and to be received by no later than 10am GMT on 30 September 2002. |
