On
6th December 2002 an electrical fault caused a fire in our offices
that put us out of commission for 3 months :-(
The
fire started in the early evening after a series of 4 quick
power failures by our local electrical supply utility. The final
damages to the building and the PC equipment totalled approx.
US$60000. We are very thankful that nobody was injured.
Here
are a couple of pictures that we took the next day.

|
This
was the main equipment rack that housed the servers and all
of our networking hubs and routers. The fire started in the
electrical DB board which was just out of the image on the right
hand wall. You can see the cabinet is burned worst in that area.

This
shot is behind the equipment rack in the photo at the top. All
the burned wiring from all the incoming telephone and data lines
is very evident. The unrecognisable blackened blob in the top
left of the picture is actually our telephone switchboard that
was mounted on the wall.

This
is a picture of the workshop/Barry's office. The burned equipment
cabinet from top 2 pictures is in this room.

This
is Jeannettes office. As you can see most of the damage was
caused by the smoke which got onto/into EVERYTHING.
When
the PC monitors and all the plastic cabling caught fire the
smoke became "plastic" and toxic ... you can see how
it has "run" down the walls.

What
is left of Caroline's office :-(

The
smoke was so thick that in the kitchen it even managed to penetrate
INTO the sealed fridge, and covered EVERYTHING with a gungy
acidic layer of "plastic" soot.
